KNX versus the alternatives
Loxone, proprietary systems, Zigbee/Z-Wave… Each technology has its strengths. Here, plainly, is why we favour KNX.
The real issue: durability
Every home-automation solution can switch on a light. The difference plays out over time: who controls the system in ten years, does it depend on a single manufacturer or a cloud, and can you grow it without replacing everything?
KNX is an open international standard (ISO/IEC) backed by hundreds of manufacturers. That's what sets it apart from ecosystems tied to one brand or an online service.
Four families, different philosophies
KNX (our choice)
An open, wired, local and multi-brand standard. Robust and expandable, but it demands careful design.
Loxone
A capable and affordable ecosystem, but largely proprietary: you depend on a single manufacturer and its logic.
Proprietary systems
A brand's 'turnkey' solutions, often simple at first but closed and hard to grow outside the brand.
Zigbee / Z-Wave / Wi-Fi
Consumer wireless devices, easy to fit but dependent on a cloud and gateways, and less reliable over time.
Why we favour KNX
Independence
No prisoner of a brand or cloud: you choose and you stay in control.
Local reliability
The bus works without internet; no outage 'because the server is down'.
Real expandability
Add, replace, extend — room by room, brand by brand.
