The smart home is often sold on comfort. Yet it's also a concrete lever for energy savings — provided you target the right uses. And in Luxembourg, several schemes encourage energy renovation. Let's take stock, without airy promises and figures.
Where automation really lowers consumption
The gains come mainly from fine control and the absence of waste: the system acts only when it's useful.
- —Heating controlled room by room, with automatic setback when away or a window is open.
- —Automated solar shading (shutters, blinds) that limits summer overheating and winter heat loss.
- —Lighting managed by presence and brightness, never left on for nothing.
- —Consumption visualisation, which reveals the costly items and steers good habits.
What not to expect from it
Automation isn't magic: it optimises a building, it doesn't transform it. In a poorly insulated home, insulation and the heating system remain the priority.
KNX amplifies the efficiency of that equipment rather than replacing it. That's why we talk about real but variable gains, never a guaranteed percentage.
Grants in Luxembourg: finding your way
Luxembourg supports the energy renovation of homes through national schemes (the “PRIMe House” / Klimabonus aid programme) and guidance from the Klima-Agence. Home automation as such is generally not subsidised; the measures it's often paired with, however — heating control, photovoltaics, insulation — can be.
Conditions and amounts change: check your eligibility on the official sources before any commitment.
- —Klima-Agence: neutral, free advice on energy renovation.
- —guichet.lu / PRIMe House scheme: the national grants in force.
- —Your municipality: complementary local support sometimes exists.
Our role
We're neither a grants office nor a financial adviser: our job is to design a KNX installation that makes the most of your energy equipment and keeps your consumption legible. For the financing side, we're glad to point you to the right contacts.
