Planning your smart home project: the checklist

A well-prepared project means a fairer quote and an installation without nasty surprises. Here's how to approach yours, step by step.

Even before requesting a quote, a few simple decisions save time — and money. This checklist helps you clarify your needs and arrive prepared for the first visit.

Clarify your priorities

Not everything needs to be automated from day one. List what truly matters to you: daily comfort, energy savings, security, the look of the controls. That ranking guides every choice that follows.

  • Which functions first: lighting, shading, heating, security?
  • New build, renovation or extending an existing system?
  • Indicative budget and timeline.

Gather the right documents

The more information the integrator has, the more precise the quote. For a build or renovation, plans are valuable.

  • Architect's plans or measurements, even rough ones.
  • A list of rooms and their uses.
  • Contacts of the other trades (electrician, heating engineer) if already chosen.

Understand the role of timing

In new builds and deep renovations, home automation is decided early: KNX wiring goes in before partitions and finishes. Planning ahead avoids costly rework — our guide on KNX in new builds covers this.

For light renovations, KNX RF (wireless) offers more flexibility and can be added later.

What happens after your request

With us, the first step is a free, no-obligation visit: we listen to how you live, look at the building, then propose an installation plan and a detailed quote. To gauge your budget upfront, see our Prices & budget page.
