'How much does it cost?' is the first and most legitimate question. Here, transparently, are the factors that determine the budget of a KNX installation, to help you see clearly even before the quote.
Why there's no price per square metre
A home-automation installation isn't a standard product: two houses of the same size can have very different budgets depending on the number of functions, the level of finish and the state of the building. A price 'per m²' would be misleading.
The factors that weigh most
A few elements shape most of the budget:
- —The surface area and number of rooms to equip.
- —The number of functions: lighting alone, or also blinds, heating, energy, security.
- —New build or renovation — wiring is simpler and cheaper in new builds.
- —The choice of brands and the finish of switches and screens.
Think total cost, not just installation
KNX costs more to install than conventional electrics, but you have to think long term: energy savings, comfort, added property value and above all expandability. An installation built to last avoids redoing everything in ten years.
